Angle ---- kress & van leeuwen



The function of vertical angles is widely noted: high angles (looking down on a depicted person from above) are interpreted as making that person look small and insignificant, and low angles (looking up at them from below) are said to make them look powerful and superior.

high angle depicts a relationship in which the producer of the image and the viewer have symbolic power over the person or thing represented

low angle depicts a relationship in which the depicted person has power over the image-producer and the viewer


Horizontal camera angles. Moving the camera around the subject horizontally while aiming at the subject creates different camera angles below:












Eg:




this two people talking to each other. and the viewer- us just like not inside it.



Vertical camera angles. Moving the camera around the subject vertically while aiming at the subject creats different camera angles below:








High angle. The camera is placed above eye level, looking downward. A high angle shot can make a character look smaller, younger, weak, confused, or more childlike.
Eye level. Most commonly used.
Low angle. The camera is placed below eye level, looking upward. A low angle shot can make a character look bigger, stronger, or more noble. It also gives the impression of height.

  1. The example pictures is good to understand about each angle like vertical and horizontal angels. Actually, I didn't know exactly, which position is which angle because there are many angles. It is good example to understand. But I think, real pictures or images also can add and use to explain. If you add more images, I can understand more easily.
