Join us in the theatre for free screenings of 1920s classics, kung-fu and gangster flicks, romantic comedies, documentaries, propaganda movies and experimental films. (All have either English soundtrack or English subtitles.) Each session is preceded by a short talk and followed by informal discussion. Next up, on Dec. 5, is Jia Zhang-Ke’s acclaimed Still Life (2006). Set in a town partly submerged by the giant Three Gorges dam project, it follows a miner and a nurse who run into each other while looking for their long-lost partners.

23 January 2011: In the Mood for Love (2000), directed by Wong Kar-Wai, is about a man and a woman in the same Hong Kong apartment building who, cheated on by their spouses and determined not to fall so low, find themselves increasingly attracted to each other—until fate intervenes.
